My bread machine is one of my favorite kitchen tools, even though I use it mostly to make pizza dough.  Most often, I use the bread machine for the entire dough making process of whatever bread-type item I am making, then do the actual baking in the oven.  I have tried multiple bread recipes, different types of bread flour, and even adding special ingredients.  However, we just cannot top my mom’s bread recipe that is a long-standing family favorite.

9 oz.                     Scalded Milk

1 Tablespoon     Butter, softened

3 cups                  Bread Flour

2 Tablespoons   Sugar

1 ½ teaspoons    Salt

2 ½ teaspoons    Active dry yeast

Add ingredients to bread machine in the following order:

Butter, Milk, Flour, Sugar, Salt, Yeast

Set machine on dough cycle.  After the last kneading cycle, remove from machine and place dough in bread pan. Bake in preheated oven at 350* for 20 minutes or until golden brown. 

Baste the top of the loaf with butter when the loaf comes out of the oven.
